After Manchester City beat Fulham 2-0, successfully secured third place in the Premier League and advanced to next season's Champions League, Manchester City coach Guardiola praised the players' tenacity and mentality, and also talked about the team's plans for the summer and preparations for the upcoming Club World Cup.
In the post-match interview, Guardiola emphasized: "We never gave up. We have been injured this season, but we have always persevered. Although the third place is not perfect, it is enough for us to compete in the Champions League for the 15th consecutive year. Maybe the outside world does not believe it, but for us, today is a happy day."
As the 2024-25 season draws to a close, Manchester City will travel to the United States in mid-June to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, and the team will regroup at the beginning of next month. As for whether they can recruit players before the Club World Cup, Guardiola made it clear that there will be changes, but no revolution will happen.
Guardiola said: "I don't have the feeling of a major change. I saw the players in training and they are really good. Of course there will be new players, but not too many, because our current squad is very solid and most of the players are under contract and hope to stay."
Recalling his first season as Manchester City coach, Guardiola said with emotion: "We didn't win any championships at the time, 10 players' contracts expired, and in the end only Yaya Toure renewed his contract. At that time, reconstruction was needed, but now it's different. We have 23 players still under contract."
Regarding whether anyone will choose to leave Manchester City after the Club World Cup, Guardiola said frankly: "Maybe someone will realize that they want to leave the team, but that's not what I should worry about. What I should do is to ensure that the team qualifies for the Champions League, and we did it."
